Does Sugar Make You Fat?
Sugar is poison. The food industry does not care about our health. Food is killing us. We need to lose weight now and change what we eat before it is too late. These are all issues Healthy Bastards has stood up for, and we are thrilled about a new documentary in theaters today: FED UP.

According to David, when you consider it takes one hour and 15 minutes to burn off one soda, there simply aren’t enough hours in the day to burn off all the calories Americans consume. The maximum daily dosage of sugar should be 6 TEASPOONS for women and 9 for men. The average adult consumes 22 TEASPOONS per day and the average child has 34. Just one can of Coke, with 39 grams of sugar, will put you over the daily limit. Just one.

Fact: The brain reacts to sugar like cocaine and heroine.
Two groups of men were given “health shakes.” One group was unaware their shake contained sugar. Otherwise, the shakes were the same. Brain scans showed that the area of the brain linked to addiction, the same area that lights up when you have a heroine or cocaine addiction, lit up in the group that had sugar. Sugar is extremely addictive. It hijacks our taste buds, brain chemistry, metabolism and makes us fat.
Fact: Fat and sugar act very differently in the body.
When you consume sugars, they get absorbed into the stomach, then the liver which turns on a process called lipogenesis. This process makes and stores belly fat. Fat is created by putting excess insulin into the body which is then turned to fat. It also increases our appetite–and for foods that will only make us fatter. It’s a vicious cycle.
