Black Walnut is a hardwood tree Native to North America, but was introduced to Europe in the 1600s. In the U.S.A. it is found mostly in the Midwest. The hull is the shell of the nut. Many parts of the Black Walnut tree are used as herbal remedies including the leaves, nut, inner bark and the hull.
Black Walnut contains omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and high amounts of tannis which is used to reduce swelling and pain, and to dry up body fluids like mucous.
It is used to heal wounds, treat diseases and parasitic infections, and is even used as a hair dye.

Black walnut contains two main types of active chemicals. One is juglone, which may have some antibiotic and antifungal effects.
